Pray.

We had a very nice Christmas, but didn't take very many pictures. Moving on...

One day we were sitting down to dinner and James was being extra difficult. In order to help him focus on eating his food, I grabbed his hand and said, "let's say a prayer." On the spot, I blurted out the first thing that came to mind: "thank you God for this food. AMEN." That has been the prayer we have said ever since followed by a rousing "LET'S EAT!" by James and his dad. Of course James wants to say it every time we sit down for anything, dinner, breakfast, snacks. So, I am looking for some new ones. I know a lot of the little kids learn some good ones at their schools or churches, so I am asking for you to share your favorites. Thanks!

And yes, after the Lord's prayer at the Christmas Eve service James exclaimed "Let's Eat!" after the AMEN.

Well, there's always "God is Great"
"God is great, God is good, let us thank Him for our food. By His hands we all are (or shall be) fed, give us Lord our daily bread, Amen"

or "God our Father"
"God our father, God our father, we thank you, we thank you
For our many blessings, for our many blessings, amen, amen" to the tune of Frere Jacques

Those are the first two that I can think of

Here are a couple:

We thank you God for the world so sweet, We thank you God for the food we eat, We thank you God for the birds that sing, We thank you God for everything.
Amen

We give thanks, we give thanks, we give thanks for food and friends. Amen. (You sing this one, but I have no idea what the tune is, sorry)

I've been polling the family for you. My sister's favorite is:

Good bread, good meat, good god, Let's eat!

"Dear Lord,
we offer thee our thanks and prayer,
for food and home and all thy loving care."

***
"Thank you God for dinner today,
Thank you God for dinner today,
Thank you God for dinner today,
Thank you God."
(I can sing it for you if you call me)

***
Veggie Tales Song:
"God is so good,
God is so good,
God is so good
He's so good to me."
Repeat with "He Answers Prayers" and "I love him so".
(again, I can sing it for you if you call me)

there were a bunch of them that we used to sing at camp--i can sing some of them the next time i see ya. (one of them is even to the superman theme, so james may try to sing it at a basketball game?)

my sis and i always used to say "God is great" like becky posted, and my daddy and grandma say "Lord, make us humbly thankful for these and all our many blessings, Amen."

two of my favorite smart-allec ones:
rub-a-dub-dub, thanks for the grub, yeah God, the devil sucks, AMEN.

Father, Son and Holy Ghost, who eats the fastest eats the most.

Ella Grace learned some great ones at school.

A B C D E F G, Thank you God for feeding me. Amen. (sung to the ABC song)

Thank you God for happy hearts and rain and sunny weather. Thank you God for this our food and that we are together. Amen.

Bread and jam, bread and jam, I am thankful yes I am. I thank you God for the food I eat. Thank you for this lovely treat. Amen. (we sing this one too, but I have no idea what the tune is!)

Gabriel's school switches it up between some previously mentioned prayers and some of these:

We love our bread, we love our butter, but most of all we love each other. Amen. (I think this is from the Madeline books)

The "Johnny Appleseed" song ("Oh, the Lord is good to me, and so I thank the Lord...")

Then there's the good old Catholic standby: Bless us O Lord and these thy gifts which we are about to receive from thy bounty. Through Christ our Lord, Amen.

Ours is pretty basic,

"Lord, thank you for this food, bless it to the nourishment of our body. Amen."

Sounds like your family was the riot at Christmas Eve service! So fun.

We don't do any set prayers, so I don't have any advice for you... but they sure can be funny sometimes. When David was smaller, he asked his Heavenly Father to please bless the boat on top of the refrigerator. It was up there in time out.

One that I use to say all the time growing up was:

For health and food, for love and friends, Father we thank thee, Amen.

Thank you for the birds that sing
Thank you Lord for everything

Hope you guys had a great holiday!
